Privacy Policy
ControlScreenTime (“we,” “us,” or “our”) provides an Android app that helps you set daily screen time limits and manage distracting apps. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
1. Who we are
ControlScreenTime is operated by the ControlScreenTime team. You can contact us at hello@controlscreentime.com.
2. Information we collect
Depending on how you use the app, we may process the following types of information:
- App and device usage data — such as which apps you use, how long you use them, and screen time totals. This data is needed to enforce limits and show usage insights.
- Settings and preferences — daily limits, blocked apps, unlock methods (accountability PIN, puzzles, reflection), and related configuration you choose in the app.
- Account information — if you create an account or join a waitlist, we may collect your email address and basic profile details you provide.
- Support communications — information you send when you contact us for help, feedback, or waitlist requests.
- Diagnostic data — crash logs, performance data, and technical identifiers (such as device model and OS version) to keep the app reliable and secure.
3. Android permissions
To provide screen time limits and app blocking, ControlScreenTime may request permissions on your device, which can include:
- Usage access — to measure how long apps are used and apply daily limits.
- Accessibility or overlay-related permissions — to block or limit access to selected apps when your time limit is reached, where supported by your device.
- Notifications — to alert you when limits are reached or when extra time is granted.
You can review and change these permissions in your Android system settings. Some features will not work without the permissions required for that feature.
4. How we use information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, operate, and improve ControlScreenTime;
- Enforce screen time limits and unlock flows you configure;
- Display usage analytics and trends inside the app;
- Respond to support requests and waitlist sign-ups;
- Monitor stability, fix bugs, and prevent abuse or fraud;
- Comply with legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your app usage data for third-party advertising.
5. Where data is stored
Much of your screen time and limit data is processed and stored on your device. If we offer optional cloud backup, sync, or account features, we will store only the data needed for those features and protect it using reasonable technical and organizational safeguards.
6. Sharing with third parties
We may share limited information only in these situations:
- Service providers — trusted vendors that help us host infrastructure, send email, or analyze crashes, under contracts that require them to protect your data.
- Legal requirements — when required by law, regulation, legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of users and the public.
- Business transfers — if we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to continued protection of your information.
7. Data retention
We keep information only as long as needed to provide the app, meet legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. You can delete local app data by clearing app storage or uninstalling ControlScreenTime from your device. Contact us to request deletion of account or waitlist data we hold.
8. Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you;
- Object to or restrict certain processing;
- Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent;
- Request a copy of your data in a portable format.
To exercise these rights, email hello@controlscreentime.com. We will respond within a reasonable time as required by applicable law.
9. Children’s privacy
ControlScreenTime is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11. International users
If you use ControlScreenTime from outside the country where our servers are located, your information may be transferred to and processed in other countries with different data protection laws. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for such transfers.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised policy on this page and update the “Last updated” date. Material changes may also be communicated in the app or by email where appropriate.
